Super 2nd Grade Recipe Taste Tester #1!

Mrs. Stocker sent a picture today of the recipe she tried from the 2nd grade cookbook.  She also made the snow day pop tarts.  Thanks for sharing Mrs. Stocker!  Feel free to email me your pictures if you'd like to share your taste testing of any of the recipes with the class.

Super 2nd Grade Recipes

Our cookbook economics project has completely exceeded all of our expectations!  I plan to do a more detailed post about this project once we wrap up our sales on Friday, March 3rd.  This project has been so exciting for the class!  If your family tries a recipe from the cookbook, and you'd like to share it with the class, just email me a picture!  I'll post it to our blog!

The class knows that it is a tradition at my house to make homemade pop tarts on snow days.  Of course I made them for my family this morning, and it was so handy to be able to use the recipe directly from our cookbook!

February Author's Celebration and Comfy Cozy Read-In

Thanks to all the families that were able to make it to the February Author's Celebration.  The students really enjoy sharing their writing with you!

We also had our comfy cozy read-in on Friday for "I Love to Read Month."  What better way to settle in with a good book than in your comfy pajamas!

Smithsonian Water Ways Exhibit

Over the last few weeks we've been fortunate to learn more about the impact of water on our lives and the community through the Smithsonian Water Ways Exhibit and classroom presentation.  At the end of January, a volunteer came into our classroom to teach us about how the Native Americans interacted with water and how important it was to them.  This tied in perfectly to our Native American studies from earlier in the year.

On Thursday, we visited the exhibits.  We stopped into 3 different locations:  The Lanesboro Museum, the Art Center, and the Commonweal Theatre.  It was very interesting and informative for our class, and we want to thank all the volunteers and people who organized this event, lead us through the stations, and taught us more about water.  It was also a great opportunity for us to learn more about the history of Lanesboro as well!

Valentine's Day

We had a fun Valentine's Day!   We started the day with double digit Valentine Bingo.  The students  solved the problems and added to their bingo boards in preparation for the bingo game.  What they were most excited for was sharing their cards and treats with their classmates.  Last week we finished up a cute Valentine art project as well.

I Love to Read Month

We have enjoyed the first couple weeks of I Love to Read Month!  On the first Friday we did buddy reading with the 5th grade class.  Half of the 2nd graders stayed in our classroom and some 5th graders joined us upstairs, and the other half went to the 5th grade class to meet their buddies there.  It's always fun to share good books with a new friend!

On the second Friday of the month, we had a teacher swap.  Mrs. Ruen came into the 2nd grade classroom to read a few of her favorite books that she wrote when she was younger.  I went down to 5th grade to share a few of our favorites from the Top 20 books we are reading right now.
